About Scuba Diving in Cozumel

Cozumel Island is the largest island of Mexico. It is located just 12 miles off the coast of Playa del Carmen and is globally recognized as being one of the top spots for scuba diving in the world. Part of the reason why Cozumel has been able to maintain its reefs is the National Marine Park. The Cozumel Reefs National Park is the largest in all of Mexico. This means that all of the reefs inside the marine park are  protected.

Scuba diving in Cozumel is almost all drift diving. Drift means that there is current. It can be a bit tricky if it is your first time drift diving. Once you get used to it, however, it is some of the easiest most relaxing ways of scuba diving there is.

Another characteristic of scuba diving in Cozumel is the amazing visibility. On an average day in Cozumel, visibility is between 100-120 feet (30-37 meters). This great visibility enhances the majesty of the enormous coral structures of Cozumel that hang impressively over the wall. The coral structures are the most attractive part of scuba diving in Cozumel. They have formed a spectacular maze of swim-throughs unlike any found anywhere else in the world.

Cozumel also boasts a wide range of marine life. From little nudibranchs, sea slugs, and seahorses, to huge eagle rays, turtles, and moray eels. You can find them all.
